POETRY OF THE BODY QIGONG
Qigong as Personal Medicine
Wednesdays 10.45a - 12p
In Qigong we move in a flow that opens up lines of communication with the parts of ourselves that need attention, care, and love. We move the body like a poem, uncovering truths not through the rhythm of words and sound, but with the pulse of sensation and silence.
The body speaks a language without words; it imparts its messages by way of sensation. To hear them, first we must quiet ourselves, and move slow. Gathering together, in the safety and nourishing temple of a space that AY^AM Tesuque is, we’ll move like star swimmers and deep sea dancers, in the ways that the body knows inherently—for Qigong is an ancient practice. It reaches deeply into the threads that make us—the meridians and the energy centers are cleansed, cleared, stimulated, activated, and attuned to the messages of the forms we practice.
This class is intimate and deliberately so—you can think of it as a kind of group private lesson. Before we move, you’ll have space to share with words (or simply vibration if you choose to remain silent) the parts of you that want to be heard, moved, made into medicine. We’ll choose a form that speaks to your personal medicine, your elixir for whatever it is that you need. Each form named in the circle will arise in our practice; these forms will create our Qigong set for the session, and every practitioner present is nourished by the unique combination of Qigong forms.
Eagle Claw Sword to Honor the Iron Goddess of Compassion Within
Wednesdays 12.15p - 1.30p
"The swords through our heart are not those which cause our wounds, but rather the mighty swords of strength earned by our deep struggles through hard times."
--Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Tieguanyin is the Iron Goddess of Compassion, and it is in her guidance we learn to wield the sword with respect, integrity, and resolve.
We step into ourselves as warriors, but not those who seek battle in the name of violence; rather, we choose to stand firm in our full, gleaming armor of light as those who walk the path of discipline and grace combined. Our compassion and heart-centered intention for the wellbeing of All Life Everywhere is the source of our power. This is Kwan Yin as the Warrior Priestess, she who holds the Sword of Love in the face of adversity.
We call on Metal, Element of courage, commitment, clarity, precision, and discernment. These aspects in turn inspire clarity, clear decision making, and the ability to speak one’s truth. With Metal we pierce through the veil. With Metal we stand in fortification and authenticity, ready to meet all that may come our way.
In this class we use the Eagle Claw forms, as passed on by Master Sing Chui, to cut through what no longer serves us. Swords will be provided for practice, and may potentially be available for purchase, should you be so drawn to carry the sword home with you. But regardless of the physical sword—the spiritual sword will be yours forever. For what we gain from this practice is much more than flexible, strong wrists— this practice rekindles your relationship to who you were born to be in this lifetime.
EAGLE CLAW GONGFU + TAIJI
Cultivating skill, precision, and sensitivity to nourish one’s spiritual center
Wednesdays 2p – 3.30p
Here is where one can move into the practice more deeply, by refining the movements and making them “pure,” as Master Sing Chui would say. As gentle, heart-centered people, we must actively seek ways to approach fierceness and power with alert courage. The path of the mystic, the seeker, the artist—the poetic soul—is one that cannot reach its full potential without the cultivation of precise skill. For it is within the clarity of one’s intention that one’s outward expression becomes rich with sensitivity.
We’ll study in the authentic lineage of Eagle Claw Turning style (Ying Zhao Fan Zi Men), placing emphasis on internal energy, bringing your focus inward, and super-charging your personal power outward.
We train in stances, body alignment, and application of movements. Form work (learning sequences of specific movements) is used to help you build your practice, and isolation of single forms will be offered as a way to better understand their pyschospiritual influence.
EIGHT TREASURES QIGONG
Whole-Being Purification with the Ba Duan Jin Qigong Set
Wednesdays 3.45p – 4.45p
The Eight Treasures, also known as the Eight Brocades (Ba Duan Jin), is an ancient Qigong set that cleanses, nourishes, strengthens, and purifies the body (jing), mind (qi), and spirit (shen). These gentle and potent eight forms touch on all the meridians (energy lines), each of the organs, and every one of the energy centers within you.
Not only will we practice the full set each class, but we will be moving deeply into the movements on a deeper level— we’ll discuss what each form provides specifically, and we’ll also get precise with the physicality of each movement. Those present will have direct access to adjustments and recommendations on their form. This will create the space for one to bring the form deeply into oneself, to make the form pure in the body so that it can move the Qi in the most potent way.
